Former Basketball Coach Yanni Hufnagel’s Journey and Successes

Yanni Hufnagel is a former basketball coach who taught and trained players in many American universities around the country.

Yanni is best known for his work with Harvard and the University of California, Berkeley, but the coach was involved in other teams as well where he trained basketball players.

 

Yanni was born on August 26, 1982, New York, in the family of Joni Hufnagel and Thierry Hufnagel, where he learned to play lacrosse with his younger brother and at school. He studied at Scarsdale High School and played at the lacrosse team of the school before becoming the team captain. Yanni Hufnagel also played for the Pennsylvania State University’s lacrosse team before being transferred to Cornell University. There, he graduated from Industrial and Labor Relations.

In his professional journey, Yanni progressed his career in the sports industry and worked as an assistant coach and a recruiter for the teams California Golden Bears, Vanderbilt Commodores, and Harvard Crimson and greatly improved the teams that he worked with.

 

Yanni Hufnagel possesses a master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education with an Emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletics Administration.

It wouldn’t take long for Hufnagel to become the assistant coach of a very prominent team. In 2009 he was called to train Harvard Crimson’s basketball program as the associate coach of Tommy Amaker and made a big difference in the training sessions, results and scores of the basketball program of Harvard. As the assistant coach of the team, CBS Sports named him one of the most energetic recruiters and was recognized for his talent and commitment with his players.

Not long after, Yanni Hufnagel became responsible for yet another team: The Vanderbilt Commodores, as the assistant coach of Kevin Stallings. He was credited by the popular sports channel ESPN for his commitment to his team during the 2014 recruiting class.

 

Yanni Hufnagel also worked as a coach for the University of California, Berkeley and for the University of Nevada, Reno, where he expanded his work as a basketball coach until finally retiring from his profession.

Dick Devos Celebrates One Year with FAA Council

The news from Washington is that the Devos family is moving up in the political spectrum. With Betsy Devos as the 11th US Education Secretary, her husband Dick Devos has also been making political moves. He has joined the Management Advisory Council for the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA started the council in 2017 after being challenged by President Trump. He made a statement about the current state of airports in America being much less advanced than in other countries.

 

This challenge prompted the FAA to start looking at policies and regulations. The council is mostly comprised of former transportation officials from different industries, but there are also former airline executives. Dick Devos was a unique pick because he is well known for his business acumen, but he is also known within the aviation industry. However, many do not realize that Devos has been in the aviation industry.

 

From a young age, Devos wanted to be a pilot. He currently holds licenses to fly his jet and helicopter. However, this isn’t the only thing that defines Devos’ involvement with aviation. He is also the co-founder of a pilot training school, known as The West Michigan Aviation Academy. This academy is located in his hometown on the grounds of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

 

This airport is the reason that Devos is well known. The business tactics used to expand this airport started in 1999, when Devos joined the CEO in helping the airport grow its ticket sales. While the airport had been around since the early 1900s, there were a lot of issues with the airport that led to stagnant growth. One of the biggest problems was a lack of destinations. Devos proposed adding on new flights and talked to the CEO of AirTran Airways to see if the airline would open up new terminals out of Grand Rapids.

 

AirTran Airways was bought out by Southwest a few years later. Devos had to make a phone call again to talk to the CEO of Southwest. He convinced the CEO not to close down any terminals at the airport location, even while the company was shutting down terminals across the country. Later, in 2017, the CEO of Southwest would praise the nomination of Dick Devos to the council.

 

Devos has met with the council for the past year. The council of 13 members only meets once per quarter, and during that time, they are responsible for advising the FAA on policies, regulations, budgets, and future plans for growth. Devos has some great ideas to help transform the airport industry just as he had with the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

Pishevar is seeking to create a form of travel that has literally reduced friction to a virtually unmeasurable amount.

This is just one of the things that makes the concept of a hyperloop so exciting. Engineers know that trains are among the least-friction-producing means of transport that currently exist. Aside from low aerodynamic drag, trains produce virtually no friction due to the extreme rigidity of the rails. This is the cause of freight trains being the least expensive form of land transportation. But despite the vastly less friction that trains produce relative to cars and trucks, they still produce a sizable amount of friction.

Hyperloops promise to completely eliminate all friction by creating a sealed vacuum in which a car will levitate at speeds approaching the sound barrier. This could produce a mode of transportation that is considerably faster than jet travel but that will consume only a tiny fraction of the total fuel.

At the same time, Shervin Pishevar says that the system promises to all but completely eliminate the hassles encountered with boarding and deplaning at airports, a process that can take up hours on every trip. A hyperloop will be able to be boarded and deboarded with nearly the same speed and efficiency of a subway. And dedicated routes may eventually enable travel between cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles in a matter of minutes.
